Future generations.

The next time we neglect our dream let us consider those who will come after us. Think of those who need role models to step forward fearlessly. In hundreds of years, we may be the ones who help someone else to dare, someone who will make a difference in the future, although we lived ages ago.

Let us act on the basis of our wisdom. Recall that self-respect has to be earned through doing what is right rather than taking the easy way. Let us choose honesty and generosity. Let us light candles where darkness prevails and work, each in our own way, moving toward a goal that will benefit future generations.

Remind me today to help those who need and want my support. Make me generous, particularly when I have very little. Make me ready to stand up for the generations that will follow my own.

Follow your heart.

If we have something or someone to care about or contribute to, we are wealthy. If we are aware of our breath and our heartbeat and are surrounded by nature and by others, we are wealthy. If we are able to express and take in words that touch to the depths, we have what we need most. If we still have time, we have everything.

It is always worth it to follow our heart. It is worth it to affirm what we wish to foster, worth it to downsize to make more space. Worth it to listen for the truth. Worth it to do what is honorable. Worth it to stand up for our norms and values. Worth it to give a little more each day.

Help me today to be patient if I lose my way in external activity or superficiality. Help me to forgive myself for the times I fall or get lost. Make me grateful for what I have and humble in anticipation of what I stand to lose.

The flow of nature.

Mist or sunshine. Rain or wind. Alone or together. Sad or happy. Time spent in nature gives us energy no matter what we are dealing with in our lives. Is it possible that the absence of the proximity and wisdom of nature is causing us to stumble, draining us of energy and making us lose contact with who we are?

Soon the days will be longer, and buds will begin to become part of spring. Still, for a short time more, we can enjoy the darkness, the candlelight, the winter restfulness, the time for reflection, contemplation and nature. With the lungs of the forest and the earth around us, our bodies and souls are recharged, and our map becomes more distinct.

Let me appreciate the way the light falls on the tree trunks, the sky and the sea today. Keep me close to the flow of nature and far from feeling cooped up. Remind me that I am a small but important aspect of the billowing landscape.

Grounded in my values.

Mahatma Gandhi wrote: “Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.” Our future needs to know what we stand up for and set greatest store by.

Inspiration is a result of discipline, not something some people possess and not others. We often feel energetic about the beginning of a project, but the people who reach their goal are the ones who persevere when the energy runs low. Inspiration lasts when our behavior is in line with our values and helps discipline endure when energy ebbs.

Help me today to keep my inspiration alive by doing what I know is right for me in the present. Help me to maintain my discipline when distractions loom, even when my energy level ebbs. Help me to behave in accordance with my inner compass.

Accepting challenges.

Very few things of any value come to us without our effort. If they did, we would probably not continue to develop.  Challenges strengthen us, make us reassess and reconsider our way of life, and force us to find new strength.

Sometimes the challenge is health-related, sometimes it has to do with relationships, work or financial difficulties. The challenge is not in the challenge in itself. The challenge is in how we choose to deal with it. One day at a time, we can settle in, find solutions, or let go. Breathe deeply and see obstacles as growing pains.

Help me today to go through life with gratitude, no matter what it brings. Help me to be strong in my weakness, trusting when asking for guidance, and productive as I seek solutions. Make me a trusting person who stands firm when tested.

Today leads to tomorrow.

Every choice we make today has consequences for what our lives will be like tomorrow. The words that exit our mouths demonstrate the person we are right now. Every dawn brings with it new opportunities to enrich ourselves with the qualities we have been striving to see more of in ourselves.

If we do not know what path to take, we can stand still and let the answer catch up with us. If we have said something we regret, we can apologize. If we have forgotten that every morning is a tabula rasa, we can reboot after lunch, or in the light cast by the sunset.

Today, help me to stand tall. Make me courageous in my choices, honest in my appraisal of reality, and confident in creation of my legacy. Release me from small-mindedness and allow me to make decisions that will make tomorrow gleam.

Important & urgent.

Important people, results and accomplishments deserve plenty of time. Very few good things come to us without effort. If they did, we might not appreciate them sufficiently. We need, however, to be able to differentiate between what is important and what is simply urgent.

If we are well prepared for what we have been longing for, it is more probable that we will manage to hold onto it when it eventually comes our way. If we stand up tall, we will be able to reach the things we are ready to explore. By prioritizing important things, we will sooner or later get home.

Help me today to put the important things ahead of the urgent ones. Remind me that what is worth striving for demands space and time. Make me selective and wholehearted as I make my way toward my dreams.

Our life message.

If the whole world could read our life message on the wall each morning, what would it say? What has our life been like so far? Is it in line with our own life message?  Mahatma Gandhi wrote: “My life is my message”. Others will do as we do, rather than doing what we say.

No one will speak at our funeral about our costly home or our high salary. What counts is our message, the feeling we give others and the things we build on that basis. When it is our turn to pass on, what do we want to leave behind?

Help me today to take careful but plucky steps. Remind me to turn toward my deathbed now and then, to borrow wisdom concerning how I want to spend my time. Help me to encourage others to feel that in my presence they possess resources and abundance.

Like pearls.

If we are doubtful that our dream can be fulfilled, all we have to do is take note of nature, because we are a part of nature. Happiness is born as character is built up. Trees endure, standing in place day after day. When we remember our intention and live accordingly, happiness is born.

Each of us has a short tenure on earth. We gleam like pearls. We bob up and down, are pushed onward by the wind to cleaner waters and words of greater truth. The sun whispers our name. The sea lies calm, like hope. Life is ours now. The present is the time when our character is built up. The breeze carries us onward in the present moment.

Help me today to recall that I am stronger and more forceful than I think. Let me use my time wisely and be true to myself as I build my dream. Help me remember that I am a pearl, gleaming because I exist.

Room for all.

We deserve the best. Not out of arrogance, or at anyone else’s expense, but because when we have more than we need, we will have plenty to pass along. We all define “the best” differently, and for that reason there is room for everyone on our earth.

When we grow to new heights, we can inspire others to do the same. When we demonstrate what thriving means, more people will have a sense of what it means to be able to design their own beautiful blossoms. The more space we take, and the more we are creative, the more we will thrive. The brighter our light, the more life around us will grow.

Help me today to honor my own definition of “the best”. When I lose my stature, remind me of how good it feels to stand up tall. When I doubt that I am worthy of taking up space, let me spread my wings, no matter how they are patterned.
